Configure the Data Structure for Alternatives using Custom Fields

Users can add custom fields to a decision to capture a variety of data attributes required to define an Alternative.   The custom fields when added, will also be available for inclusion in the Submision Request Form. 

Customize the Data Structure:

  1. Go to the Define Alternatives screen and click on either the   button or select Customize Alternatives from the MORE drop down.

  1. This will open the Custom Fields dialog where you can select from available fields to add to the data structure.

  1. Each of the field types on the left can be added multiple times to the data structure. Click the field type to add it to the list or click and drag within the righ panel to insert or arrange field in a specifc order.

  2. When finished click on the  button to commit the changes. 

NOTE:  Alternative Name and Description are included as part of the decision be default.   Name si required to create an Alternative, Description is optional and can be deleted or hidden through the display options dialog.

Field Types:

Location

When Location field is added, the following elements are requested:

  • Title: Name of the Field is locked as “Location” and can not be edited

  • Description: Optional description to capture the specific intent of the Location field for the decision

Location data will be entered via the Define Alternatives screen edit panel, and can be provided by either Address or Latitude/Longitude Coordinates (decimal coordinate) 

  • When typing in address will provide auto suggestions for known locations and the User must choose a validated location.  

  • Click done to close the dialog and the mapped image will be displayed. 

  • The image is interactive and can be zoomed +/- and dragged within the image frame.

Text Input (Short)

Short Text entries will display as a single line text field will display to capture the data and will allow only 160 characters 

  • When Short Text field is added the Title and Description (optional) are requested. 

  • Description when provided will display below the title for guidance. 

 

Text Input (Long)

Long Text is a multi-line text field will display to capture the data with no set character limit. 

  • When Long Text field is added the Title and Descprition (optional) are requested.  

  • Description when provided will display below the title for guidance.

Category

Category is a picklist field where the choices for the given Category are requested.  

  • There is no limit on number of options within the Category. 

  • Chosen Selection will display with an ability to change option by clicking to activate the dropdown.  

  • When no category option has been chosen, the Alternative will be listed as Unassigned in the Define Alternatives Table.  

  • Categories will also be avaiable within the Data Visualization elements of the applicaiton and will be added to the Control Panel as display options. 

Hyperlink

Hyperlink is used to capture a clickable URL (web address).  

  • The field title will be displayed as a section header. 

  • Links will always be displayed as a clickable hyperlink, when clicked the link will open in a new browser tab.  

  • http:// will be automatically added to the link provided unless otherwise specified (https, ftp, etc). 

Metric

Metric is used to capture numerical quantitative data in either single period or mulit period timeframes. 

  • Multi-Period Checkbox designates if data element spans across timeframes. 

    • If multi is selected, the desired timeframe (Years, Fiscal Years, Quarters, or Months) must be noted as well as number of periods to capture. 

  • For Single Period, a single field will be used to capture data. 

  • Data must be in numeric format but can have decimal precision and/or be negative. 

Custom fields that are added to the data structure will be available in multiple places in the applicaiton.  Including the Alternatives Edit Panel, Alternatives Table, Search, and in the Add Alternative Form. 

Display Options in Alternatives Table

Users can choose to display or hide columns in the table using display options in the More drop down. 

Check the fields that you want display.  Click DONE when finished to commit the changes. 

All fields except “Name” can be hidden.  All fields by default will display as columns in the Alternative table.  All field will continue to display in the edit panel (sidecar) regardless of table display setting.
